Step five: Revise
Once you have finished drafting and writing, check if the following items are included in your report:
Content
- The introduction: Does the introduction include the book's title, author, subject-matter or theme? Does it include a thesis statement?
- The development into three or four body paragraphs.
- The first paragraph: Is the synopsis of the book short and complete?
- The body paragraphs: Are they relevant to your thesis? Do they develop two or three main ideas supported by details and quotations? Do transitions connect ideas and paragraphs?
- The conclusion: Does it give credit to the book's contribution to the subject-matter? Does it include your reaction? Does it end by an appropriate clincher? 1
Style
- Does the text follow the elementary rules of English usage?
- Does the text follow the elementary principles of composition?
- Are there words or expressions commonly misused in your book report?2
Spelling and grammar
- Have you checked for accurate spelling and good word choice?
Have you consulted a dictionary and a thesaurus?
- Have you revised your text using your computer's spelling checker and grammar?
- Have you had someone else revise your text for possible improvement?3
