    Aims

    Web News Editorials aims at the development of thought, communication and citizenship. Furthermore, it is in accordance with the following programmes of studies: the Secondary School Curriculum of the "Ministère de l'Éducation, Loisirs et Sports" of Québec and of the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organization

    General aims

    This web site aims at the development of critical thinking, judgment and discrimination. Secondly, it aims at the increase of vocabulary, reading and communication skills. Thirdly, it proposes to develop interest and knowledge about citizens' responsibilities in a democracy.

    Comprehension Objectives: By the end of the second cycle of secondary school, students will be able to understand oral and written messages, in order:

    Terminal Objectives:

    1 To confirm or reject their own hypotheses or those of others.

    3 To solve a problem or make a decision.

    4 To form an opinion or to inform themselves about the opinions of others.

    5 To inform themselves about the interests, attitudes, feelings and intentions of others.

    6 To inform themselves about facts or events.

    Intermediate Objectives:

    9 To identify the main idea of a passage or a text. (Level of difficulty: 2)

    13 To identify a continuous item of information. (Level of difficulty: 2)

    15 To distinguish between arguments for and arguments against used by a writer or a speaker. (Level of
    difficulty: 2)

    16 To distinguish between facts and opinions expressed by a writer or a speaker. (Level of difficulty: 3)

    17 To distinguish between general and specific statements made by a writer or a speaker. (Level of difficulty: 2)


    3.4 Production Objectives: By the end of the second cycle of secondary school, students will be able to express themselves orally and in writing in order:

    Terminal Objectives:

    2 To inform themselves or others about a problem or a decision.

    4. To inform someone about their interests, attitudes, feelings, intentions, opinions, and hypotheses, and those of others, and to gather such information.

    Intermediate Objectives:

    38 To formulate the main idea of a message transmitted by another person. (Level of difficulty: 2)

    40 To formulate their own arguments about a given subject. (Level of difficulty: 3)


    Types of texts:

    C 12 Commentaries.

    C 14 Newspaper or magazine articles. 1

    Areas of interaction: Approaches to learning and Homo faber.

    The aims of the study of Language B can be summarized as follows:

    • enable the student to use Language B effectively as a means of practical communication wherever the language is spoken
    • offer insight into the life and civilization of the linguistic communities where the language is spoken, and into the local and standard aspects of language
    • encourage integration with the local community, where relevant
    • encourage positive attitudes toward speakers of other languages and appreciation of other cultures
    • give a sound basis of skills, language and attitudes necessary for further study, work and leisure
    • offer some insight into the nature of language, foster creativity, provide enjoyment and intellectual stimulation
    • complement other areas of study by fostering more widely applicable skills such as identify relevant information, drawing conclusions, memorizing.


    The Objectives of any subject in the Middle Years Programme of the IBO state in a specific way the targets set for the course, defining what the learner will be able to do, or do better as a result of following the course. The objectives can be seen as falling into four categories: memory, attitude, understanding, and doing. [. . .]

    Within the four interactive skills, the students are expected to:

    Comprehension Skills

    Listening
    Understand the spoken language from various sources in a variety of topics
    Reading
    Understand both nonliterary and literary written texts

    Production Skills

    Speaking
    Acquire good pronunciation and intonation, and communicate effectively
    Writing
    Express themselves in appropriate form with reasonable ease and accuracy. 2
