2. The Middle Years Programme

Some of the aims
of the international Baccalaureate Organisation's Middle Years
Language B program seen in the Log pages can be
summarized as follows.1 |

- Offer insight into the life and civilisation of the linguistic
communities where the language is spoken, and into the local and
standard aspects of language
- Encourage integration with the local community where relevant
- Encourage positive attitudes toward speakers of other
languages and an appreciation of other cultures.
- Foster creativity, provide enjoyment and intellectual
stimulation
- Complement other areas of study by fostering more widely
applicable skills such as identifying relevant information,
drawing conclusions, memorising
